Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DOES THERAPY WORK? WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO IN SESSIONS?
In your first session, the therapist will ask questions about your presenting concerns, as well as your history and background. Most likely, you’ll find yourself talking about your current symptoms or struggles, as well discussing your relationships, your interests, your strengths, and your goals. Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs. Most importantly, in that first session, you will begin making a connection with your therapist. You should feel safe, accepted, respected, and relatively comfortable. Not all therapists are right for every person, so use your first session to assess whether or not the therapist you chose feels like a good match for your personality. In subsequent sessions, you will work with the therapist on achieving your therapeutic goals.
HOW LONG WILL I BE IN THERAPY FOR?
Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time can vary in accomplishing your goals. It depends on your current level of functioning, your desire for personal development, your commitment and motivation, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place. Therapy is unique in that its ultimate goal is for you to be ready to leave therapy. It also provides an opportunity to practice a very important life skill: talking through the emotions associated with ending a relationship, and saying goodbye in a positive and relationship-affirming way. Because of this, we believe that having an identified termination session is a very important part of therapy. Termination sessions are an important time to develop closure by reviewing what you’ve learned about yourself, which goals you haven’t reached in therapy and what to do about them, how to maintain your gains, and how you feel about the relationship ending. This is why we encourage you to address the following questions with your therapist during the first few sessions: “under what conditions will we end, and what will that ending look like?”
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR A TELEHEALTH SESSION?
Prior to your first session, you will have discussed the steps to connect to the Telehealth session with our intake coordinator essions. Choose a location that is private and comfortable for you to be in during the duration of the session (assuring your privacy). Many of our clients simply choose to say that they are Skyping or Facetiming with a friend, or on a work call. Check your internet service to make sure you have a strong signal or you can use your cellular service. Make sure the lighting is adequate in the location you choose to have your session.
WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?
There is no fee to cancel over 24 hours from the session. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, please provide us with a 24 hour notice by either calling, texting, or emailing. If you miss a session without prior cancellation, or do not cancel with a 24 hour notice, you will be required to adhere to our policy below, unless we mutually agree that you were unable to attend the session due to an illness or emergent circumstances beyond your control. Canceling or rescheduling ahead of time gives us time to schedule other clients who may be waiting for an appointment.
1. Any established client who fails to show or cancel/reschedule an appointment and has not contacted our office or their therapist with at least 24 hours notice will be considered a No show and charged a $50.00 fee.
2. Any established client who fails to show or cancel/reschedule an appointment with no 24 hour notice a SECOND TIME will be charged a $100.00 fee.
3. If a third No show or cancellation/reschedule with no 24 hour notice should occur the client will be charged a $150.00 fee and may be dismissed from Mindful Mindset Wellness Center.
4. The fee is charged to the client, not the insurance company, and is due by the time of the client's next appointment.
*As a courtesy, when time allows, we send reminder emails for appointments. If you do not receive a reminder email, the above Policy will remain in effect.
**Cancellation policy is different for Medicaid clients
